A harpist needs approximately 1.5 metres x 1.5 metres in order to set up the harp, music stand and chair or stool. Our footprint is not as large as is popularly believed. Do double check with us if you are worried that you may not have space.
A chair without arms (standard dining chair or function chair) or piano stool works well. Some harpists bring their own stools if not we will check with you what is available.
We are all formally trained and have developed our performance skills to be able to sustain an average of three hours at an engagement. Some of our harpists are able to play for longer, when required, and will just need to take sensible breaks. Usually a set will last 45 to 50 minutes in each hour played. This does vary between harpists but is a general guide.
Generally our harps are able to provide either ambient background or foreground music for up to 150 guests. We can provide amplification where necessary and will guide you accordingly. The nature of the soundboard allows the music to travel well in most settings.
We will talk to you about dress for the event and dress accordingly. We can tailor the appropriate outfit for your occasion; smart, long and formal, cocktail, black tie etc We will liaise with you to ensure that we are aware of colour themes, and dress code. We know that presentation is a major factor both of our work and how your event is seen.
How much does a harpist cost?
Every event is different and so we always quote for each individual enquiry according to location and playing times.
Can I buy a Gift Certificate ?
We offer a unique Gift Certificate service. Friends and family can purchase a monetary value personalised certificate in amounts of £50, or a whole package ie harpist for wedding ceremony, or surprise Birthday Party.
How long is a wedding ceremony or civil partnership ceremony ?
For a church ceremony, we usually allow at least half an hour for the arrival of guests, then a further forty five minutes for the ceremony itself. This is calculated as an hour of playing time overall. The harp sounds wonderful in a church acoustic and does not need amplification.
A civil ceremony and civil partnership celebrations usually have between half an hour and fifteen minutes for guests to take their seats. The ceremony itself will last between fifteen to twenty minutes depending on how many readings and pieces of music you include. If you are booking a photographer, they will usually take set-up shots during the signing of the certificate and at the end of the ceremony.
