Sound Explorers
A new way of working with deep listening, musical play, embodiment, and improvisation, the Sound Explorers project was developed by Xenia Horne during the pandemic. Xenia had been asked to find a way of delivering enjoyable music making with harp and voices for local Year 1 pupils who had missed the face to face experience of Reception. Xenia integrated soundscapes and images of the natural world into the sessions and following the lifting of restrictions, worked with the children outdoors. Tuning into our senses through the sounds of nature and the sounds of our internal worlds then become the starting points of micro songs. The work has been further developed through Xenia's involvement with Joyce DiDonato's Eden Project : One Song, One Seed in 2021 and Magic Acorns Germination Project. Xenia also delivered a workshop on her methods, as part of the MERYC EU conference, Feb 2022.
